The Importance of Certification

A certified pedigree and proper registration aren’t just paperwork — they’re your assurance that your Goldendoodle puppy comes from transparent, intentional, and ethically guided breeding. These documents verify lineage, confirm health‑tested parentage, and protect families from the risks of misrepresented genetics, especially in popular colors and patterns. Registration creates a traceable record that supports responsible breeding practices, strengthens long‑term health predictability, and preserves the integrity of the breed’s development. For families, it offers confidence. For breeders, it reflects professionalism. For the puppy, it’s the foundation of a healthy, well‑documented start to life.

There are several reputable Goldendoodle and Designer Breed registries:  America's Pet Registry, the International Canine Association, and the Continental Kennel Club are a few.

The Poodles at Cotton & Gray are each dual registered with AKC and APR.
The Goldendoodles at Cotton & Gray are registered with ICA.  Each Puppy born to Cotton & Gray comes with a certified Pedigree and an application for registration.

Red Flag:  If a breeder tells you that registration is not needed or important for Goldendoodles, you may be dealing with a backyard breeder that does not value transparency or does not care about or understand the importance of ensuring ethical and responsible breeding practices.
